The Story

On May 15th, 1977 in Salt Lake City, Utah, A Jaqai is born.

It was there, at a very young age, that Jaqai discovered his passion was cartooning. He grew up idolizing and emulating the likes of Jim Davis (Garfield), Charles Schulz, (Peanuts) and later becoming obsessed with Bill Watterson (Calvin & Hobbes) and the work of Gary Larson (The Far Side.)

With cartoon strips and animation being the foundation of his interest, Jaqai started becoming more and more involved with visual. In high school he did both a weekly cartoon strip and layout and design for the Mount Carmel Sun, his school's newspaper.

After graduating high school in 1995, he then went on to take illustration and multimedia classes at Palomar College. Then, after a short stint at the San Francisco Academy of Arts, he was given an opportunity to do web design full time for the small San Diego based ISP, Electriciti. It was there that he learned HTML and the very strict "dos" and "don'ts" of web design.

From there he moved on to what was then an exciting start up dot-com company called "SpinRecords.com." There, he was specifically hired to do a weekly cartoon strip for their site, do web design and some coding, and even had an opportunity to do some print ads. In its prime it was a dream job, however, in the category of "too good to be true," things started to fall apart. So after nearly a year of working and learning a lot with the art team there, he moved on again (Just in time, SpinRecords.com completely folded a little more than a month after he left) to an interactive television company called Buzztime Entertainment, Inc. He still works there, now as Senior Artist.
